Harlan M. Bohnsack, AIA

Architect, Carbondale Manager

It's easy to see how Harlan has made a successful career in architecture, with more than 45 years of experience in the field. He has a strong work ethic. He makes responsible decisions. He is always willing to learn new things. He founded our Carbondale, Illinois, office as hmb ARCHITECTS in 1995 and has never looked back. He’s passionate. He’s tough. He’s competitive. He loves a challenge. Need we say more? Clients always know they are in good hands when Harlan is on the team.

Harlan’s wide array of experience includes architectural and structural design of projects in retail, restaurant, corporate, healthcare and education markets. The projects span the entire United States and Puerto Rico. Harlan has built long-term partnerships with these clients where they have a mutual trust and understanding of their goals. He always ensures clients’ needs are put first.

He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 47 years and have two adult children – daughter, Monie, and son, Burke. Harlan enjoys traveling to Alaska – Burke lives in Juneau – to take in the scenery and the hiking. He spends much of his free time bicycling, both road and cross-country, and cheering on his beloved Iowa State University Cyclones.
