Friedman Park Amphitheater Art

CALL TO ARTISTS REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Application Deadline: June 3, 2016
Budget: $22,500
Installation Deadline: November 30, 2016

The new Friedman Park in Warrick County will provide around 70 acres of developed open space that will feature native landscape, a play garden, trails, pavilions, and an amphitheater. It will be a passive, dawn until dusk park where members of the community can exercise, host gatherings, encounter wildlife, and attend organized events. Warrick County Economic Development seeks an artist or artist team to design, plan, create, fabricate, transport and install a work of public art on the amphitheater stage wall. The commission is open to all artists or artist teams authorized to work in the United States.

This competition seeks an aesthetically pleasing, imaginative, site specific, wall mounted sculpture. The selected design must make a strong visual statement and relate to the natural landscape and/or local wildlife. The Amphitheater will serve as the backdrop for many community events, weddings, graduations, and informal gatherings. The form of the Amphitheater canopy makes a conceptual reference to a bird in flight. The art should complement the Amphitheater and not compete or detract from its architectural prominence.

To encourage the greatest range of artistic creativity and possibilities, proposals may employ any medium; however, the successful sculpture will be durable, easily cleaned, low-maintenance, and suitable in form, material and content for a mixed-ages audience. The work must fit into a space 18’ wide and 8’ feet high. Building designs are available as an appendix in the RFP. Installation of the piece must be concluded on or before November 30, 2016.
