Assistant Accounting Specialist / Controller

We are currently looking for a full-time Assistant Accounting Specialist to work in the Evansville, IN, office. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with excellent organizational and personal skills. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for accounting-related tasks and management of the financial accounts of the business.

The Assistant Accounting Specialist will perform the following tasks:
• Record monthly journal entries into general ledger
• Reconcile deposit accounts
• Complete month and year end closures
• Process weekly payables
• Monitor monthly expense report
• Take weekly deposits to the bank
• Organize, enter and pay invoices to vendors in a timely manner
• Handle payroll functions and activities including uploading into third-party accounting portal
• Coordinate with Human Resources Manager for employee onboarding / termination paperwork
• Maintain banking relationships
• Assist in the preparation of tax documents and coordinate with accountant firm
• Load new projects into accounting software
• Collaborate with team members to provide necessary financial reports to senior-level managers
• Assist with answering phone calls in the front office
• Serve as backup to the Office Manager

Qualifications:
• 
Proven experience in customer service interaction / relationships
• Knowledge of basic accounting and ability to perform basic accounting tasks
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products required
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
• Ability to learn and expertly manage firm’s accounting / time reporting software (Deltek)
• Understanding of full general ledger accounting
• Proven ability to be accurate and must possess strong attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to communicate professionally and effectively electronically, over the phone and in person
• Proven ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to learn new computer programs quickly and efficiently
• Exhibits ability to maintain tact and professionalism; professional demeanor
• Bachelors degree in accounting / finance preferred
