Hafer’s exceptional design work on the Bosse Residence has earned top honors from IIDA Indiana's Interior Design Excellence Awards.
Presented biennially, the IDEA recognizes projects across the state of Indiana that exemplify boundless creativity in design across 17 categories. The Bosse Residence earned the Residential/New Construction award, which was judged by its response to design challenges and the innovative use of texture, lighting, color and furnishings to create a lasting impression.
Located on a picturesque riverfront setting in Newburgh, Indiana, the modern, elegant, three-story home features a tiered layout that responds to the sloped site. The challenge was to make the most of the wooded land and its river views and successfully mesh the couple’s unique design preferences.
Inside, the foyer expands two stories overhead, and the open floor plan extends to the kitchen, dining and living room, where large windows provide views to the outdoors. To the right, the family’s art collection tells a story in a museum-like gallery hallway. Bedrooms and ensuites combine indoor-outdoor living with generous glazing and access to the landscaped patio. Balancing the couple’s unique design tastes meant incorporating details from mid-century modern and transitional design, like sharp angles with warm wood and pops of color. The couple’s offices are a great example of their sense of individuality and collaboration, with personalization including family photos and accent pieces.
The project reflects the power of residential design that solves challenges creatively while resulting in a custom, elegant living environment. The owners enjoyed the design process so much that they cannot wait to begin a new project.
