City of Evansville
City Pools
After much discussion and research, a plan to improve the aquatic facilities in Evansville was created. It involved closing two pools that were deteriorating and experiencing low attendance due to design and building two new aquatic facilities. These new facilities would offer more amenities and in turn, bring in larger crowds. The City hired Hafer in conjunction with Cousilman-Hunsaker to design them. They were both identical in design, with each featuring zero-depth entry, water spray features, a tot slide, water jets, a 150-foot waterslide and an eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool.
Both pools have several sustainability features built into their design, including ultraviolet systems, high-efficiency pumps and motors for pool equipment, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures and pool backwash water recycling. After opening, both pools experienced more revenue than projected for the first year and have continued to beat revenue projections since, displaying how much-appreciated these changes were.
