Princeton Public Library

Addition & Renovation

After several informational sessions with Princeton Public Library, Hafer completed a master plan to determine future growth and change for this Carnegie library that would meet the needs of today’s technology-driven society. One of the main underlying objectives was to create a space for the community to engage with one another, as well as keep their beloved library up-to-date for the community of Princeton.

The result from the master plan and community outreach led to the design of a contemporary, two-story addition with a new front door referencing where the library is today and in the future. Materials were carefully selected to introduce the new with the old and large expanses of windows were added to create a visual connection with the community.

Recently complete, this downtown library features flexible meeting rooms with an adjacent catering kitchen, a technology room, large reading space and dedicated space for children, teens and adults. The genealogy department was moved to a more accessible location that provides interaction with staff.

The community of Princeton has enjoyed the updated library and is looking forward to it remaining a place where generations of families can go for educational and community events.
