University of Evansville

Schroeder School of Business

Named as one of the nation’s best small private business schools, University of Evansville needed a new facility to house their Business program that would match the academic excellence of the program. The new facility supports the University’s aspirations to move toward more student-oriented teaching methods and fosters true interaction and innovation between students and faculty.

Designed along with Mackey Mitchell Architects, the School of Business was completed in two phases. The first phase included the design of a 35,000-sf building connected to the McCurdy Student Union. The building contains a large two-tiered lecture hall, several classrooms, an executive board room and meeting spaces. The second phase consisted of renovating the original McCurdy Student Union into new business classrooms, faculty offices, a study lounge and conference rooms.

One of the unique architectural features of the Schroeder School of Business is where the exterior wall of the original McCurdy Student Union forms one wall of the atrium in the addition. The building also features a large glass curtain wall at its front entrance which invites visitors to tour their prestigious business program. The glass allows daylight to fill the large atrium where students can often be found hanging out and studying.

As part of University of Evansville’s mission to provide a sustainable campus, this building was designed for and awarded LEED Certification. In fact, it was the first LEED Certified building constructed on University of Evansville’s campus and in the City of Evansville. It incorporates natural daylighting, low-emitting materials, water efficient landscaping and stormwater infiltration/detention systems below the parking lot.

The new Schroeder School of Business honors University of Evansville’s rich history and represents their forward thinking and academic excellence. Students and professors enjoy the new state-of-the-art facility which provides all the necessities and amenities they would expect in this prestigious program.
