Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent

Patient Room Renovations

The Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent is committed to providing comprehensive pediatric services that support both children and their families. As part of this mission, the hospital is renovating patient rooms to create a more accessible, supportive and comforting experience.

The first two renovated rooms were the Fairy Tale Room and the Champion Room. The Fairy Tale Room is designed to transport patients into the pages of a storybook. Inspired by the annual fundraiser ball at West Baden, the room features whimsical wall designs, including a cartoon rendition of the historic hotel and woodland characters.
The Champion Room inspires young patients to feel like champions. The headwall features graphics representing a wide array of sports, while the footwall is styled like a stadium filled with cheering fans. The wall graphics are vinyl and double as protection against typical wear and tear. All artwork was created in-house in collaboration with Ascension St. Vincent.

Three additional rooms feature local organizations like Tools 4 Teaching, the University of Evansville, and the Evansville Otters. The Tools 4 Teaching Room highlights the local business that provides resources for teachers, from books and games to decorations and supplies. The headwall graphic makes children feel like they’re having fun in their favorite class with an interactive seek-and-find game that invites them to explore their surroundings, with paint brushes, chutes and ladders, chess pieces and more.

The University of Evansville room displays Ace purple and celebrates what makes the university unique. The headwall depicts Harlaxton Manor, the university’s study abroad location in the United Kingdom. Harlaxton’s iconic lion statues stand front and center while native wildlife like sheep, deer, foxes, birds and butterflies enchant the area. The footwall highlights Olmsted Administration Hall, the University of Evansville building that greets visitors and students on campus. Various vocational symbols represent different fields of study, like medicine, science, arts, athletics, business and more, while the Ace mascot stands proud. Kids can dream big and imagine what is possible.

The Otters Room encapsulates the feeling of an Evansville Otters win. On the headwall, the front gate of the historic baseball stadium Bosse Field greets you with caricatures of everyone’s favorite game-time snacks, and of course Evan the Otter. The footwall displays the classic phrase “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” and a graphic of Bosse Field after a big win, complete with celebratory pops of fireworks.

Additional rooms are planned for renovation and construction. The overall goal of the renovation project is to transition patient rooms from double occupancy to single occupancy to help with infection control. Additional improvements include larger, more accessible bathrooms; additional storage options; and a convertible sleeper couch.

These renovated spaces are thoughtfully crafted to provide children and their families with a positive, imaginative environment that provides some comfort during a challenging time.
